Youth Advisory Council (YAC) is currently being developed in our local high schools. It is being established to consist of high school age students who will form a Youth Coalition in their school that meets at least monthly. They will serve on a youth-led council that addresses drug and alcohol preventions while providing a safe place to discuss the issues their peers and communities are facing. They will develop prevention strategies to implement in order to engage teens and reduce/prevent youth substance use. Quarterly they will come together as a county and collaborate county wide strategies while improving team building skills and leadership roles. They will be active in their city/county governments and pledge to remain drug and alcohol free.
YAC is an opportunity for high school students to become community champions in the field of substance abuse prevention. With support from Drug Free Tipton, teens are provided the tools necessary to live above the influence of drugs and alcohol, learn effective strategies to bring education and awareness of substance abuse to their peers, and become advocates for change.
Despite what you hear:
In the past 30 days, over 83% of Tipton County middle and high school students have not drank alcohol.
In the past 30 days, over 85% of Tipton County middle and high school students have not smoked marijuana.
In the past 30 days, over 89% of Tipton County middle and high school students have not taken prescription drugs not prescribed to them.
In the past 30 days, 90% of Tipton County middle and high school students have not smoked cigarettes.
Don’t believe they hype, not everyone’s doing it.
Be a part of the solution!
